This volume presents the results of one of the largest archaeological projects ever undertaken in central Arizona—the Roosevelt Platform Mound Study along the Lower Verde Valley. Covering more than a thousand years of human occupation, the book examines the dramatic environmental and cultural changes that shaped the prehistoric communities of the Verde River region, from early agricultural settlements through the rise and collapse of platform mound communities. The volume integrates archaeological, environmental, and ethnographic data to tell the story of the people who lived along a river that has since all but vanished.
