Mark E. Mack Community Engagement Award

SRI was part of a team who recently received third place in the Mark E. Mack Community Engagement Award for our work on History Colorado’s Native American Boarding School Research Program. This Award honors individual researchers or research project teams who exhibit outstanding best practices in community collaboration, engagement, and outreach in their historical archaeology and heritage preservation work.
SRI conducted geophysical work at the Old Fort Lewis Cemetery, in addition to conducting archival research for the project. The geophysical work was led by Dr. Jennie Sturm, with assistance from Patrick McDermott, Samantha Ascoli, and Jacob Greenwald. Maeve Herrick assisted with GIS, and Micheal Heilen with remote sensing data processing.
The archival research team included Bonnie Gibson, Michelle Slaughter, and Patrick McDermott. We are honored to be a part of this important work.
