Human Resources Manager

Are you a hands-on HR professional ready to own the full HR function in a dynamic, growing company? We’re a family-owned business with approximately 200 employees operating across multiple states–including California–and we’re looking for a Human Resources Manager who’s ready to lead with heart, roll up their sleeves, and make an impact.
This is a high-ownership, individual contributor role – you’ll be the go-to person for everything HR, from recruiting and onboarding to compliance and benefits administration.
What You’ll Do:
HR Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the primary HR advisor to ownership and leadership.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and practices to support our business goals and reflect our employee-first culture.
- Promote an inclusive and productive workplace environment across all locations.
Recruiting & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for both field and office roles.
- Coordinate all aspects of onboarding and orientation to ensure a strong start for new hires.
- Build and maintain recruiting pipelines and referral strategies.
Employee Relations
- Be the point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues.
- Guide managers through performance conversations and address employee relations matters with professionalism and empathy.
Compensation, Benefits & Insurance
- Administer employee benefits, open enrollment, and day-to-day benefit questions.
- Oversee compensation changes and partner with payroll to ensure accurate execution.
- Coordinate with brokers and providers for renewals and benefit strategy.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure HR practices comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws–especially California labor regulations.
- Maintain all employee records and documentation with confidentiality and accuracy.
- Complete required filings (ACA, EEO-1, etc.) and manage unemployment, leave, and workers’ comp claims.
HRIS & Systems
- Manage our HRIS (Paylocity) to track employee data, benefits, performance, and timekeeping.
- Generate reports and insights to support decision-making and workforce planning.
- Partner with accounting/payroll to ensure smooth integration of data and processes.
What We’re Looking For:
ยท Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2+ years in a sole HR or generalist capacity.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, with California compliance expertise required and multi-state experience preferred.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution.
- Experience using HRIS system–Paylocity experience a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
