Information Technology (IT) Computer Technician

Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a multidisciplinary cultural resources consulting firm specializing in archaeological and historical services, has a full-time position available for a Computer Technician. SRI provides comprehensive cultural resource management services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and the Pacific Northwest. These services include innovative applications of information technology in a wide variety of contexts, including web-based delivery of geospatial data, archaeological database development, digital archiving, and artifact curation.

This position involves frontline support troubleshooting hardware and software, primarily for SRI staff in the Tucson office, and assisting the Tucson IT System Administrator with maintenance and development of the IT infrastructure. The duties include server maintenance and configuration; desktop, laptop and peripherals installation and support; communications support; and maintenance of data backups, as well as recommending ongoing improvements to our support service capabilities. The primary duty of this job is problem solving.

The ability to provide prompt, end-user support to a 50-user base is critical to maintain efficient work flow and product delivery. A demonstrable commitment to operational support is essential, as are strong written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must have a diverse background demonstrating initiative and common sense as well as skill in problem solving and time management.

This position requires an ability to assimilate, understand, and explain technical information to a wide range of audiences - particularly non-IT professionals. Excellent teamwork skills are required for working with all users.

The ideal candidate will have initiative in problem solving and an interest in the business of Archaeology. This is an entry-level position but requires a background in hands-on computer and staff support.

A minimum of 2 years of experience with the following is required:

  • Windows 2000/2003 Server & Active Directory
  • Network Management and Security
  • Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Office suite
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues
  • Outlook Exchange mail systems
  • Data backup and recovery
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others
  • Ability to work on networked Windows platforms

The ideal candidate will also have experience with:

  • VPN and Remote Access
  • Geographic Information Systems support
  • Publication and Production support
  • Temporary networking of Field Operations
