Requirements:
This position requires a B.A. or B.S. in anthropology, archaeology, or a related discipline with an emphasis in archaeology and geospatial technologies. Equivalent experience may be counted for degree requirements. Geospatial technologies include mathematical spatial analysis, satellite and aerial remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems, total station surveying, geophysics, spatial visualization, and photogrammetry. A general, technical understanding of all of these technologies with advanced specialization in at least one spatial method is desirable. Previous cultural resource management (CRM) experience is preferred. Continuing professional education, professional involvement, and adherence to professional ethical standards are integral to this position.
Job Description:
The assistant geospatial analyst assists in the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of spatial data in a GIS platform. This position aids in maintaining overall cartographic and geospatial standards as outlined by the department director. This position also requires the ability to work independently at managing data and overseeing general geospatial and cartographic needs on a project-to-project basis. Specifically, this includes:- · Perform field cartography by utilizing a total station, GPS receiver, photogrammetric, and other methods as needed and appropriate.
- Implement the spatial data collection work plan. Oversee field mapping of profiles, cross sections, and feature plan views to ensure that department mapping standards are achieved.
- Train, provide technical assistance, and supervise geospatial technicians.
- Make in-field cartography decisions regarding sampling of data, attributing, and spatial control (creation of datum and grids) as outlined in the project work plan.
- Oversee the uploading and management of field data through such programs as ArcView, ArcPad, GPS Analyst, TerraSync, GPS Pathfinder Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Access, SQL and any other pertinent programs.
- Perform and oversee digitization and attributing of in-field drawn maps and photographs.
- Prepare and print layouts of data as paper maps or digital graphics.
- Communicate various project-specific cartographic and geospatial needs with the assistant department director, project directors, crew chiefs, and the Publications Department.
