Dr. Diane Douglas Accepted as an Expert Member of International Scientific Committee

Dr. Diane L. Douglas, SRI's Chief Marketing Officer, recently applied for and was accepted as an expert member of an International Scientific Committee (ISC) of the U.S. National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (US/ICOMOS). The committee is the International Cultural Tourism Committee (ICTC); some of the principal objectives outlined in the ICTC Mission include:

1) protect heritage resources that might otherwise be destroyed for development

2) involve members of the local community in preservation of their heritage resources

3) create employment opportunities for members of the local community

4) educate the public about the cultural heritage of diverse communities around the world, and through this education

5) engender a sense of respect for other cultures and their heritage

As an ICTC expert member, Dr. Douglas will be expected to engage in a variety of voluntary, sponsored or fee paying activities, both internationally and in the United States, that contribute to the achievement of the ICTC Mission. All expert members have the right to vote on all formal matters before the Committee, which is used as guidance by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Centre (WHC).

As an expert member of the ICTC, Dr. Douglas has been invited to participate in the ISC on Global Climate Change and Heritage Resources Management. This committee evaluates potential impacts of climate change on heritage resources around the world and advises the WHC on potential mitigation measures.
