Symposium Information: SRI employees John Douglass and Seetha Reddy have organized a symposium at the meeting entitled "Are We What We Eat? Continuity and Change in Food during Culture Contact in North America." This symposium will bring together 14 participants and 2 discussants from a broad cross section of academic and CRM circles to discuss how food preferences have been strong elements of cultural identity and social interaction. In particular, English and Spanish colonies in North America had strong influences and sometimes deleterious effects on aboriginal populations. Papers in this symposium will present data on these influences and effects on Native populations as manifest in their subsistence practices. The papers will offer unique insights from the colonial and aboriginal perspectives on consumption and adoptions of foods, as well as culture contact across North America between the 1500s and early 1800s.

Exhibit Information: Check out the SRI booth (#701) and our table at the CRM Expo.
  • SRI will be attending the Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation (AHLP) Annual Meeting April 21–24, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
