SRI Poster Selected for Prestigious Amerind Foundation Travelling Exhibit A poster prepared by SRI employees Shari Tiedens and R. Scott Plumlee for the 74th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology, held in April 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia, was recently selected by the Amerind Foundation to be part of their 2010 travelling exhibit. The poster, entitled “Social Display and Economic Stratification: Keeping Up with the Joneses in the Old Pueblo,” investigates artifactual results of economic stratification between turn-of-the-twentieth-century households from the City of Tucson/Pima County Joint Courts Complex Archaeological Data Recovery Project in Tucson, Arizona. The poster focuses on evidence of social display such as personal adornment or early adoption of new technologies in artifact collections recovered from privies associated with several residences in one neighborhood and compares that evidence to historical information gathered about the residences. The project and this research are being funded by Pima County. For over 70 years, the Amerind Foundation has been dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Native American cultures and their histories. The poster will be exhibited in November 2009 at the Foundation museum, then will tour the Southwest in 2010 at museums yet to be announced. |
