SRI Wins Awards from Fort Huachuca
May 1, 2007
SRI employees Mr. William Olguin and Mr. Martyn Tagg have received awards for their role in the design of the Buffalo Soldier Legacy Plaza at the U.S. Army’s Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Arizona. The plaza is being built to commemorate the 2007 Year of the Buffalo Soldier. Mr. Olguin, a graphic artist at SRI, created a rendering of the future Buffalo Soldier Legacy Plaza that generated a gasp of amazement from the crowd when presented to Col. Jeffrey Smith on February 23, 2007. Since its unveiling, the rendering has been reproduced on programs, posters, and other Year of the Buffalo Soldier media. The rendering also has appeared on the front page of the Sierra Vista Herald. Mr. Tagg, an archaeologist at SRI, was honored for initiating the partnership between SRI and Fort Huachuca.

In a ceremony at SRI’s Tucson office on April 10, 2007, the Command Historian, Ms. Lori Tagg, presented a Certificate of Appreciation and the Commanding General’s military coin on behalf of Maj. Gen. Barbara Fast. Mr. Tagg also received the General’s military coin for his contribution.
