Paleoenvironmental and Geosciences Department Paleoethnobotany This is the study of the relationship between plants and people in prehistory, elucidates how carbonized plant remains recovered from archaeological sites were used for food, medicine, basketry, clothing, shelter, and ritual. SRI Paleoethnobotanist Dr. Seetha Reddy has wide-ranging experience in New and Old World paleoethnobotany. She has worked on prehistoric and ethnohistoric New World collections, particularly in Massachusetts and California (including the Channel Islands). Having worked extensively on collections from the Near East, Egypt, and South Asia, Dr. Reddy is also familiar with Old World cultigens. SRI is equipped with a Flot Tech machine, which facilitates rapid recovery of carbonized plant remains, and a MOTIC camera attachment, which captures images directly from the microscope for publication, and uses other recovery and analytical methods tailored to the client’s needs. < Back | Paleoenvironmental and Geosciences Home
