Archaeomagnetic Research Program Current Midcontinent Research Work in the U.S. midcontinent has focused primarily on curve construction and intrasite chronology building. Recently, a curve covering most of the Holocene has been compiled for this region, making calendrical dating possible, particularly for the late prehistoric and historical periods. This research was summarized in a poster that won the SAA’s 2004 student poster award:
Mid-Atlantic Research:
Archaeomagnetic research has also been on going at sites along the Atlantic seaboard, with an emphasis on historical-period sites and features. Archaeomagnetic dating can contribute substantially to the dating of these more recent time periods, given the limitations of radiocarbon dating in this area. < Back | Archaeomagnetic Home | Next >
