Our Team Statistical Research, Inc., has 114 employees. These include 24 individuals with Ph.D. degrees in anthropology or a related field, 37 with M.A. degrees in these fields, and 2 with M.B.A. or equivalent degrees. The remaining employees are field archaeologists and other support staff. The company also regularly hires archaeologists on a project-specific, as-needed basis. Dr. Jeffrey H. Altschul is the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors of Statistical Research, Inc., For more than 20 years, Dr. Altschul served as SRI’s president, shepherding the company from an entrepreneurial start-up to one of the largest heritage resource management firms in the United States. In 2004, he assumed the strategic role of chairman from which he oversees company operations, ensures SRI’s standard of care, surveys national and international trends in historic preservation, and works with partners from industry, historic preservation, and government to champion public policy positions that balance the preservation of historic and cultural values with development. Dr. Altschul is also involved with other members of the SRI family, including serving as chairman of Nexus Heritage, which provides heritage resource management services in Europe, and as president of the Board of Directors of the SRI Foundation, which advances historic preservation through training, research, and education. Along with Dr. Jeffrey Altschul, Ms. Deborah Altschul founded Statistical Research, Inc., in December 1983. The establishment of the company was, in part, the fulfillment of the Altschul’s mutual desire to create an environment where scientists could come together to conduct interesting and exciting work on the human condition. Dr. Altschul and Ms. Altschul consult regularly about business issues confronting SRI and are able to bring their various areas of expertise together in order to arrive at workable solutions. For more information on Ms. Altschul ’s career, click here. Dr. Grenda has been with Statistical Research, Inc., since 1991. He took on the responsibilities of chief executive officer (CEO) and president of SRI in 2005. As CEO and president, Dr. Grenda is the visionary behind company growth while ensuring that his team keeps the mission of SRI at the forefront of day-to-day operations. Dr. Grenda holds a B.A. in Economics and Anthropology from the University of Redlands, an M.A. in Anthropology from the College of William and Mary, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. In 2005, he was appointed by the Governor of California to the California State Historical Resources Commission for a 4-year term and served as chairperson for the past 2 years. In his capacity as SRI’s chief financial officer, Mr. Peter G. Fox is responsible for formulating the company’s fiscal policy and overseeing the company’s financial matters, including its commercial strategy, profit planning and budgets, enterprise performance analysis, cash management and bank relations, credit and collections, pricing, performance reporting, and billing and collections. Mr. Fox holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Illinois and has a well-established background in financial management, having worked as a vice-president, controller, and chief financial officer for more than 35 years.
Since 2005, Dr. Teresita Majewski has been SRI’s chief operating officer (COO). In this capacity, she oversees the company operations branch and is responsible for ensuring that the branch and projects carried out within it run smoothly and efficiently. She supervises the directors of SRI’s various offices as well as project managers, principal investigators, and the directors of two support departments—publications and the laboratory. Dr. Majewski often serves as senior principal investigator or senior project manager on large projects, and because of her extensive experience with carrying out projects subject to federal, state, and local preservation law and regulations, she works closely with clients (particularly government clients) and SRI staff to ensure appropriate logistical design and implementation. She received her B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia. With Statistical Research, Inc., since 1988, chief research officer Dr. Richard Ciolek-Torello is responsible for ensuring that the company meets its prime mission to conduct interesting research on the human condition within the framework of global heritage resource management. Dr. Ciolek-Torello directs a team of two regional research directors and oversees the company’s six research departments/programs to ensure that all projects conducted by SRI meet the high standard of quality demanded by government agencies and private clients. Dr. Ciolek-Torello received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Arizona.
